RECBC’s Ethics for the Real Estate Professional course focuses on ethical decision-making in the context of the real estate profession. By being aware of the ethical implications of the decisions you make both in day-to-day business and in more challenging situations where ethical concerns arise, you will better be able to fulfill the role of trusted advisor to your clients and other professionals.

Course Overview

Who Must Take this Course

All licensed real estate professionals are required to complete the Ethics for the Real Estate Professional course. Whether you are a representative, an associate broker or a managing broker and whether you provide trading services, rental property management services, or strata management services, you’ll learn valuable information about ethical decision making in real estate in this new course.

What You Will Learn

This course, which consists of both self-paced online and virtual classroom-based elements, will help you understand your obligations and the expectations placed on you as a licensee. The course is intended to challenge and guide you in meeting the relevant requirements of you as a real estate professional, as well as the broader expectations of the public and the profession, by applying an ethical lens to decision-making.

As you work through the course, some of the materials will deal with roles that might not currently apply to you. As a member of the profession, it is important that you have a broad understanding of the industry and the obligations of your fellow professionals in other service areas.

When To Take The Course

We encourage you to take the course as soon as possible within your two-year licensing period. Completion of the course is required in order to renew your licence beginning October 1, 2020.

Course Cost

The ethics for the real estate professional course fee is $175. Course fees must be paid upon registration.

Course revenues support the development of further educational resources and courses to enhance real estate professionals’ knowledge and help them to comply with regulatory requirements.

Course Length

Ethics for the Real Estate Professional includes an online component that can be completed at your own pace. In most cases, it is estimated the course will require a total of 5-7 hours to complete. The self-paced online component must be completed before the virtual classroom component begins. You will have two weeks from the start date you select in order to complete the course.

Course Details

The Ethics for the Real Estate Professional Course has two parts: a self-paced online component followed by a virtual classroom session. Real estate professionals must successfully complete the self-paced component before attending the virtual classroom session. The online component includes:

Module 1Honesty and Integrity
Module 2Duties to Clients
Module 3Conflicts of Interest
Module 4Disclosure
Module 5Reporting Misconduct

The course includes videos and knowledge check questions within each module. You will have two weeks from the start date you select in order to complete the course.You must complete all course modules AND obtain a passing grade of at least 70% on the final assessment.

Once you have passed the final assessment, you will receive a course completion letter.

  1. Registration for Ethics for the Real Estate Professional is online through the UBC Sauder School of Business website.

    Have your licence number and UBC Real Estate Division student ID number  — will open in a new tab (if you have one) ready when you register for the course. Find your licence number using our  Find a Professional search page.

  2. On the registration page, select a start date that suits your schedule from the list of available dates. You’ll have three days from the start date you select in which to complete the course.
  3. This is an online course that you can take at your own pace over a three day period and should take 5-7 hours to complete.

Once your registration has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email from the UBC Sauder School of Business with details for accessing the online course.
