What’s New in Legal Update 2024

Completing BCFSA’s Legal Update course before applying for licence renewal ensures you’re aware of current updates on real estate legal matters that affect daily practice. Annual development of the Legal Update content is driven by feedback from those who have taken the course, consultation with industry stakeholders, and input from BCFSA Team Members.

This year, renewing licensees will see the following changes when enrolling in Legal Update:

  • Service-specific versions: instead of completing a combination of mandatory and elective modules, the curriculum is focused on legal matters related to licensees’ specific real estate services, daily practice issues, and subjects with growing relevance to the industry. These include subjects such as personal conduct, Indigenous reconciliation, and climate change. The updated curriculum aims to provide a more enhanced and efficient learning experience, ensuring that licensees are well prepared for their ever-evolving roles in the industry.
  • Scenario discussions: active participation in virtual classroom sessions is emphasized this year. Realistic scenarios have been created requiring licensees to work in groups to consider fact patterns and determine best practices based on the topics learned in the online modules. By discussing subject matter from a practical perspective, licensees will finish the course with key takeaways, and a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter and how it can be applied to daily practice.

All licensees must complete Legal Update before applying for licence renewal. Learn more about the 2024 changes by visiting our Legal Update for Real Estate Licensees webpage.
