On October 25, 2016, two new members of the Real Estate Council of BC were appointed by the provincial government. Laurie Marie Sterritt of Vancouver and Kevin Peter Lonsdale of Nanaimo will join Chair Robert D. Holmes and the eight other members of Council appointed earlier this month, bringing the total number of Council members to eleven.
The appointment of Council members by government is intended to protect real estate consumers and safeguard the public interest by ensuring a majority of public representatives among Council membership. The newly-appointed Council members bring a diverse range of skills and knowledge that will enhance the Council’s ability to restore public confidence.
Robert Gialloreto has been appointed as Vice Chair of the Council. Mr. Gialloreto is the President and CEO of Consumer Protection BC, which promotes a fair marketplace for BC consumers and businesses. Prior to this role, Mr. Gialloreto acted as President and CEO of Tourism Victoria.
After more than 37 years of dedicated service to the Real Estate Council of BC, Executive Officer Robert O. Fawcett will be retiring from his position effective November 1, 2016. Robert has served as Executive Officer of the Council since 1995.
Throughout his career, Robert has been actively involved in national and international real estate regulatory organizations: he is a past President of the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO), and past Chair of the Canadian Regulators Group, now the Real Estate Regulators of Canada.
He is also a committed community volunteer, having served as President of the BCIT Alumni Association, on the Board of Governors of BCIT, as a Director of the Vancouver Club and the North Shore Community Foundation, and as the past President of the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
At its meeting on October 25, the Council appointed Erin Seeley as Acting Executive Officer following the recruitment process for the new Executive Officer. Ms. Seeley joins the Council with a wealth of knowledge and experience, having served most recently as Executive Director of the Immigration Programs Branch in the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Training.
“On behalf of the Council members and staff, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Robert for his years of dedicated service, professionalism, and leadership. We wish him the very best in his retirement. He will be greatly missed,” said Real Estate Council Chair Robert Holmes.
Mr. Holmes noted, “We’re very grateful during this period of transition that Erin Seeley has agreed to take on the role of Acting Executive Officer. She brings experience and skills to the position that will be a great asset to the Council.”
