Council Supports Independent Advisory Group Terms of Reference


Vancouver, British Columbia, March 15, 2016 – The Real Estate Council of BC welcomes today’s announcement of Terms of Reference for the Independent Advisory Group  tasked with reviewing standards of conduct for real estate licensees. “I’m glad to see that the Independent Advisory Group is taking a thorough approach to examining the issues that have come forward in recent media reports,” said Council Chair Marylou Leslie. “I am confident that the work of this group will result in recommendations that will enhance protection of the public interest.”

The Council looks forward to making submissions to the Independent Advisory Group in the coming weeks on the current regulatory framework and professional standards for real estate licensees. The Independent Advisory Group will make recommendations to the Council at the end of May, 2016 on measures to strengthen the Council’s ability to uphold the public interest by assuring the competency and integrity of real estate licensees and their compliance with the Real Estate Services Act

The Council will continue to enforce regulations and standards to the fullest extent of its mandate under the Real Estate Services Act as the Independent Advisory Group conducts its work.
